Corona Cases World Wide April 24th

Corona Cases in Canada

It's been exactly ten days since I last update the blog. I could blame it on the stress of exams or the daily hustle and bustle of life but those would both be flimsy excuses. In my last update I was just about to begin what would've been exam break of my second year but this whole month was just a big exam break. I have managed, by some miracle of God, to get through 4/5 exams without putting much effort into school since they called off classes but let's be real - when in person classes ended, school ended. I managed to earn myself an A- in my coms class which was a little disappointing since I was striving for an A but by some miracle I actually passed Stats with a B+, a big turn from two months ago after getting a whole 38% on the first midterm and thinking I was going to pass the class at all. A little suspicious that I did that poorly on the first midterm but earned a 97% on both the online midterm and final.

We went to visit my Grandma at her Alzheimer's home again as I think I mentioned in the last update. We brought the same signs we had last time but we weren't able to speak to her on the phone this time. It's pretty upsetting to see everyone in there confused and upset about why no one's coming in to visit them and the only reassurance we can give them is a poorly shouted "Everyone's getting sick so we aren't allowed to come in. You're safer in there" through the glass thinking they can hear us like they aren't all 90 years old with truck load of hearing loss.

I'm still not TikTok famous but I also haven't been putting in enough effort. Carson tells me that I really need to pursue my E Thot career so I can run a magazine like Shag Mag where I just have to take some half naked pictures and make a calendar as my job. I have started writing again though which is very exciting. Everyone's been telling me to be art journaling this experience and selling them since it turns out I'm a pretty good artist and I work well in situations where emotions are high. I do write my best sonnets when I get off the phone with Carson after arguing and spending the whole time pretending I'm not actively crying and then ball my eye out as soon as he hangs up. But such is life.

I finished 4/5 exams today which is super exciting minus the fact that Sabrina and Carson are already completely done. I've also registered for Finance in the spring though as well as am waitlisted for my final accounting class so hopefully I get in. This is the perfect time for me to make up for failing calc the first time so being in an online spring class will save me from having to do an in person 8 hour block week course. We're back on track to graduate in five years everyone don't worry. Five years does sound kinda lame but then I remember Carson's taking five years to graduate too the only difference is I'm getting two bachelor's and he only gets one so I'm still winning don't worry.

In other news there was a brutal shooting in Halifax over the weekend. People are saying quarantine is making us all go a little insane but I'm not sure if this was really related. Seemed like there was too much planning involved. Nonetheless, our hearts all bleed for the families of those lost in Halifax and hopefully they can find peace during this time of uncertainty especially with everything they just went through. There was a rumour of another shooting today but no one really knows what's happening yet. There were reports of gunshots so the whole area outside Halifax is on lockdown, kinda spooky especially since it's the town that my aunt and two cousins live in so they've been in a really tense situation all day.

Trudeau came out with the CERB (Canada Emergency Response Benefit) not too long after everything started so it's been a weird time of trying to figure out if I qualify or not. I can't apply for anything until my tax refund check comes in the mail since it was my first time filing this year and I don't have access to my online account until it comes in. The CERB is $2000 per month for 4 months which would be less than I made last summer but would still be nice to have since I was betting on getting an internship this summer and even though I had that interview at Gibson I never heard back and two of my other applications were cancelled because of Corona. Carson and I were thinking of applying for the CERB but then Trudeau came out a few days ago with the CESB (Canada Emergency Student Benefit) which applies directly to us but is only $1250 per month so $5000 in total instead of $8000 for the summer. I'm going to take the benefit and hopefully volunteer at the crisis hotline at school for an extra government grant payment of $1000 to $5000 depending on my hours but Carson has to pay for his living expenses in the city so he's most likely going to take a job with his friend Oz this summer digging holes for electrical lines.

The Stampede was officially cancelled yesterday for the first time in it's 70 something year existence. It survived the depression and the flood but couldn't survive Corona. Calgary is pretty upset but, like Leah said, no one's stopping us from getting drunk for ten days and making pancakes in our houses. A fun semi Stampede.

That's all the updates for now. The good news is that my family and I aren't killing each other yet but I can report with 99% confidence that the max amount of time a person can spend in a house with Leah is 3 weeks. So. Kind past that. Carson and I now haven't seen each other for four weeks, the longest we've ever gone apart and we've officially been in lock down for six now I believe. The good news though is that it appears to be clearing up soon ish. My mom is still off work for at least all of May though but people are saying hopefully by June some of the restrictions will be lifted. Hopefully I won't have a nice quarantine birthday but we'll see what we can do.

Until next update in a week ish maybe if I remember we'll see so much for every three days.
